Editing Styles (Unit 29)

Labrinth - Earthquake ft. Tinie Tempah

Editing is often used to show the audience the tension within a film, there are three different types of editing used in this scene. One example of editing is Fast Pace Editing. Fast Pace Editing was used when Labrinth was singing but the scene continued to change within a 4 second time barrier from a deserted warehouse to a spaced out squared walled room. The Fast Edit was used to engage the audience to the dance and the vocals made my Labrinth. In this music video, Labrinth is trying to make the audience think that he’s the person making all the noise within the music video. Cross cuts were used a lot throughout the music video, my example of a Cross cut was when Labrinth jumped on the wall and when he landed the location change. Then the whole music video calms down when the scene changes to a group of Labrinth, this is an example of a Change of Pace Edit, this was used to prepare the audience to the entrance of Tinie Tempah so its slow because we the audience now he’s coming but we don’t know in what scene.
Camera shots are often used to show the audience the different angles of the scene, there is two different examples of Camera shot were used in this scene. The first example was a Jump cut when Labrinth is singing and we the audience see a slow motion edit of Labrinth waving his arms. This was used to allow the scene to move between from the performance and to allow the narrative to change.  Another example of Camera Shots is a Straight Cut, this was used when Labrinth was singing but the scene is simply changing the angles and nothing else. This was used not to confuse the audience with the change of scene because he’s still wearing the same clothes and the music is still being played.

Camera Shots (Unit 29)

Chris Brown - Next To You ft. Justin Bieber

I will be anayising the different camrea angles within “Chris Brown - Next To You ft. Justin Bieber.” A low angle shot was used when we see Chris Brown in the middle of the center of the town, a low angle shot was used to make Chris Brown seem taller and stronger the he really is. Also a over the shoulder show was used when Justin Bieber was on top of a high building pointing up towards the sky, this was used to make the audience think that Justin Bieber was singing to the people within this bad period of time (Earthquake on earth and everyone is running all over the place). Then we the audience see an extreme long shot of Chris Brown and Justin Bieber in the middle of the town walking in-sink towards the camrea, this was used to make them seem strong and fearlessness .

What is a music video? (Unit 29)

Jason Derulo - Don't Wanna Go Home

Synthpop (Also known as Electropop) – this music video is considered to be synthpop, the reason I know “Don’t want to go home” is considered to be this specific genre is because it shows a lot of example of Electropop throughout the music video, one example used is lighting. Dance-pop – This music video is also considered to be Dance-pop, the reason for this is because of the tune and there’s dancing throughout the music video.
Don’t want to go home is an example on Performance/Narrative.  The reason it’s considered to be Performace/ Narrative based this is because it has a performance to entertain the audience and its narrative, this is because Jason Derulo is trying to tell the audience what he’s been up to, this is because it can relate to the mood of the music video and song,
I believe this music video can be considered to be a narrative video this is because Jason Derulo is singing about his party life style and also the music video is considered to be realistic, I know this because the music video has no fictional scenes, it’s just him sing whilst the back ground performers are drunk. The target audience to this music video are people from the ages of 14 to 22, this is because the song is got a slow beat and the feel of the song has as a reggae vide, but it’s also has a sexual feeling without the actual “Sexual” scenes. This music video can build a relationship with the singer’s lyrics, Jason Derulo is singing about one party which he met a girl and that he doesn’t want to leave.
Goodwins theory was also used in this music video, the reason for this is it shows a lot of close ups, this is because it wants to build a relationship with its audience and the director wants to entertain. Also the audience see a lot of Jason’s face, this can also bring in more audience, this is because young girls could begin having a crush and this could resort them to buy more merchandise.
